
The Lighthouse for the Blind (ETLB) understands the challenges that blind or visually impaired individuals face in their everyday lives. The objective of the Adaptive Equipment Program (the Program) is to remove barriers from individuals in need and allow them to become independent, productive citizens of their community.
WHAT IS ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT?
Generally, adaptive equipment devices are used to assist with completing activities of daily living. Individuals with vision loss have many choices of equipment available today that can provide independence, safety and stability. Devices range from a large print telephone, a battery operated hand-held magnifier, an electronic book reader, or software to operate a computer.
WHO MAY APPLY?
The Program assists individuals who are legally blind and residents of the counties ETLB serves. Eligible counties are: Anderson, Angelina, Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Collin, Delta, Fannin, Franklin, Freestone, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Hopkins, Houston, Hunt, Jasper, Kaufman, Lamar, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Morris, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Panola, Polk, Rains, Red River, Robertson, Rock, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Titus, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, VanZandt, Wood.
WHAT TYPES OF ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT ARE AVAILABLE IN THE GRANT PROGRAM?
The devices offered in the Program range from talking medical equipment, magnifiers, electronic readers, computer accessibility software and much more. Our trained staff helps individuals find the best product for their needs.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
Completing this application will happen in 4 simple steps.

3) Complete the Medical release
4) Attach a copy of your state ID license and letters of reference
Note: Your physician must complete and submit this document for your application to be considered.
